Morrinsville Water Treatment Plant Reservoir Restoration

The scope of professional services Babbage offered also entailed identifying the best practicable option to replace the roof and prolong the life of the concrete tank. As there were no as-built drawings available for this reservoir, Babbage used an innovative low-cost remote-control boat with a 360o camera mounted on it to carry out the initial inspection. This helped the divers to better prepare the inspection, reducing the Health and Safety risks and to complete the inspection efficiently.
Challenges
The levee between the operational sequential batch reactor (SBR) and the contingency pond was leaking. We provided an innovative design to mitigate the risk of levee failure without needing to stop the operations of the SBR. Despite the COVID-19 lockdowns and Auckland border closures during construction, we provided effective MSQA to ensure the project's quality and compliance. Recognising the client's urgency, Babbage’s design allowed for bulk earthworks for the new pond during winter. This ensured the timely delivery of the pond, meeting the client's requirements within the designated timeframe.
