Marton Rail Hub Siding Track Survey

Announced in April 2020, the project is a partnership between Rangitīkei District Council, Te Rūnanga O Ngā Wairiki Ngāti Apa, Infrastructure Reference Group, and Rangitīkei Forestry Holdings. It aims to enhance economic growth, provide job opportunities, and improve regional transport efficiency by shifting logging operations from road to rail.
Babbage was engaged to support the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study for the Marton Rail Hub Siding. Our role involved conducting surveying and geospatial analysis to assess the feasibility and design requirements for the rail siding infrastructure.
A key aspect of our involvement was delivering high-accuracy track alignment data to optimise rail integration, reduce road transport costs, and enhance safety for road users. Leveraging advanced laser scanning and digital modelling technologies, Babbage provided precise data to inform design decisions and ensure alignment with industry standards. Our expertise in surveying and reality capture played a critical role in streamlining planning, mitigating risks, and facilitating efficient rail infrastructure development.
Supported by a $9.1M Government investment from the Provincial Development Unit (PDU) as part of the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund, alongside funding from Rangitīkei Forestry Holdings and Rangitīkei District Council, the Marton Rail Hub is set to boost economic activity, create employment, and enhance forestry logistics across the region. Babbage is proud to contribute to this transformative infrastructure initiative.
