Auckland SugarTree Apartments

SugarTree, was Auckland’s first major block of apartments to be constructed in the CBD since the Global Financial Crisis made its impact felt and signalled the start of a wider boost in construction across Auckland.
The team of architects lead by Principal Architect, Maria Ouzounova, and Project Architect, Caroline Sui, undertook the Developed and Detailed Design of all three stages of the development.
SugarTree comprises three separate apartment blocks on a tight L-shaped site, eased between Nelson and Union streets, on the western side of Auckland’s CBD. This site and the complex footprint of the blocks created many challenges for our Architects as well as our Structural Engineers who assisted with the complex seismic requirements on each of the three separate blocks.
This community feel, which the developer (Lily Nelson Limited Partnership) has intended, as a departure from many of the earlier apartment developments in central Auckland, has seen a much larger uptake by owner occupiers rather than solely investment based purchasers.
Construction of the entire complex was completed in 2018.
