Taylor Hill to Fraser Street Watermain Renewal

As well as detailed design, Babbage also assisted with the Resource Consent application for this project.
This project is also aimed at providing better quality of water for the town of Kihikihi. The project entails upgrading 1.5km of DN300 trunk main to DN560 and 3km of DN100/200 watermain to DN200/300 in the state highway corridor and the town centre. The upgrade extends from Taylor Hill Reservoir to Fraser Street with a branch to Hazelmere Crescent. The proposed material of pipeline for this project is polyethylene which will be constructed predominantly by Horizontal Directional Drilling and supplemented by open trenching where required. The new pipeline will be attached to the existing bridges to extend across the Mangapiko Stream and Mangaohoi Stream.
Challenges
An archaeologist conducted an Archaeological Assessment of Effects at Albert Park to avoid construction near important sites. An Accidental Discovery Protocol was established in case remains were found, and the risk was swiftly managed to prevent project delays. Workshops with Mana Whenua addressed concerns about the Mangapiko Stream pipeline design, resulting in a culturally acceptable modification. Stakeholder engagement during the concept stage ensured alignment and minimised potential delays. Additional costs from scope changes were managed within the original budget by using provisional sums, avoiding the need for variations.
