Kihikihi Bulk Water Supply Pipeline

We completed necessary field investigations and design of this 6km long, 200mm diameter bulk water supply pipeline traversing road corridor in both urban and rural environments. The professional services that we offered included topographical services, design, detailing the connections and isolation valves, and the completion of construction tender documents.
As Waipa District Council needed to deliver this project urgently, we did not have sufficient time to undertake other field investigations that are typically undertaken for a project of this nature. Therefore, we allowed for substantial flexibility in our design to overcome potential site challenges and unforeseen conditions.
Innovation
To overcome the challenge of insufficient time for field investigations, innovative air and scour valves were designed that would not conflict with underground services, regardless of their location. The project involved a bespoke design solution for a below ground Reduced Pressure Zone backflow preventor.
Challenges
The design of this 6km pipeline was delivered within a tight timeframe of 20 working days. Due to the Kihikihi reservoir being an archaeological site, the design needed to incorporate measures to mitigate the impact on the reserve's archaeological value.
